Bike down to the water's edge

Down to the Gulf

Need to get away from busy Bangkok and its maddenning crowds? Then this tour is what you're looking for.
Our Down to the Gulf tour will take you right down to the water's edge where you can mingle with the local fishermen as they prepare their boats or process the day's catch.
On this tour we take you to an area where foreigners are rarely seen and tourists seldom venture. Winding around mussel farms, along dirt roads and through fishing villages where the people are down to earth and friendly. Out here technology takes a backseat to cultural and traditional practices.
This tour highlights the environment and its ecosystems - you'll see evidence of the subsiding coastline and how the authorities are trying to combat it through a mangrove repopulation programme. Your guide will be an expert on the local flora and fauna and will explain the unique habits of many of the animals that you'll see such as the giant water monitors, fiddler crabs and the bizarre mudskipper fish.
Apart from this, this province is also famous for producing salt, as it borders the coast and has the perfect weather conditions.

Boat in canal This is the longest of our one day tours, with a total cycling distance of 54km. It's usually a very full day, with lots of photo stops, chit-chat to the locals stops, market stops and even helping the salt farmers stops. All in all, the freedom of the wide open roads and crisp clean air makes the early morning start all worthwhile!

Itinerary

We meet at the Just Nok New Office, at 7 for a 7.15 departure.
The first stage of cycling is to the local railway station where we'll catch the train going south-west out of Bangkok.
After about an hour's train ride, we'll take a walk through a rather chaotic fresh fish market, followed by a river crossing by ferry.
Once on the other side of the river and after a quick water refill, we start cycling through fish and mussel farms and fisherman's village with some scheduled stops along the way.
Lunch is at a tranquil resturant right on the water's edge, where fresh seafood is the order of the day - although we cater for all dietary preferences including vegatarians and vegans.
After lunch we head off to the Mangrove Conservation centre, passing through the salt pans and mangrove nursery.
Once back in Bangkok, we cycle to the shop through the old community of Thonburi. This makes for some tight turns along very narrow pathways between houses with exceptionally low roofs - PLEASE DUCK!
We usually get back to the office about 5.30pm....depending on how much playing we do along the way!Waters edge
